The building that houses the Corona vaccine caught fire; Death of 5.

The Serum Institute of India (SII) is located in Pune, where work is underway to make 'Kovishield', a vaccine for the corona virus. SII campus is spread over 100 acres, a part of which caught fire on the afternoon of 21 January. The fire started near Terminal-1 Gate of SII. The fire was so fierce that flames were reaching the fourth-fifth floor of the building near the Gate of Terminal-1. About 15 vehicles of the fire brigade had to be used to extinguish the fire. A team of NDRF had also left for Pune by 5 pm.

Five people were burnt to death in the accident. Pune Mayor Muralidhar Mohal has confirmed this. He said that the team of fire brigade rescued four people from inside the building, took them out safely. But when the fire was controlled within a few hours, the bodies of five other people were found inside the building. Mayor Mohal told that this building is still under construction. Therefore it is possible that the deceased have been laborers working in this building. No concrete reason for the fire has been revealed yet. But initially it appears that welding work was going on in the building. It is possible that the fire could have flared up.

Vaccine Safe!

In the SII itself, the vaccine Kovishield of Kovid-19 is being produced. The same vaccine, which Oxford and AstraZeneca have developed together. This vaccine is being produced and supplied in India and abroad from SII itself. Vaccination has started from Kovishield in India from 16 January. Meanwhile, the news of fire in SII caused concern. But at the moment there is some relief that the part which is on fire is away from the place of vaccine production and storage. The part which is on fire is a newly formed part of SII, which is currently under-construction. Vaccine work is going on in another part.

Will vaccine work be affected?

A huge black smoke is coming out from the building where there is a fire. The flames were also getting higher, which the fire brigade is trying to overcome. Information about how much damage was caused by the fire is not yet available. Fire brigade personnel are also trying to evacuate those trapped in the building. Chief Fire Officer Prashant told that four people were evacuated from the building. India Today reporter Vidya said that the campus of Serum Institute is spread over 100 acres and the fire is in one or two buildings on the campus. Because of this, the work of vaccine production should remain unaffected. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is also constantly getting information about the incident.
